Carrie on Caring: 30 Miles for 30 Years
On 25th June 2026, I’ll be taking on a 30-mile walking challenge to raise £3,000 for SWFT NHS Charity, as they celebrate their 30th anniversary.
At first, it was the 30 miles that felt like the challenge.
Now, I know it’s everything leading up to it.

A Perfect Four Nights in Malta
A short break in Malta filled with history, sunshine, and quiet charm — from Valletta’s streets to Mdina’s calm, it’s a trip that truly stays with you.
The Journey So Far
Training is well underway, and I’ve now completed 77 miles.
That number feels significant – not just physically, but mentally too. Each walk is building resilience, routine, and a growing sense that this challenge is possible.
Some days feel strong and energising. Others are slower, heavier, and a real test of motivation. But every mile counts.
Small Moments That Matter
One of the things I’ve loved most is how unpredictable each walk can be.
A planned “couple of miles” can quickly turn into eight (with a little encouragement from my husband!), and those unexpected moments often become the most rewarding.
There are also quieter moments- walking with an audiobook in my ears, currently Cider with Rosie—that give me time to reflect, reset, and keep moving forward.
The Reality of the Challenge
Training on pavements to mirror the real event has been important – but it comes with its challenges.
The impact on my hips is noticeable, and after longer walks, even something as simple as getting into the car can feel like an achievement in itself.
But this is part of the process.
I’m learning that this challenge isn’t just about walking – it’s about recovery, consistency, and listening to my body. The fact I can get up and go again the next day feels like real progress.
Why I’m Doing This

Working in health and wellbeing, I see how vital care, environment, and support are to recovery.
The NHS does incredible work every day, and charities like SWFT NHS Charity help go even further – supporting patients, improving facilities, and investing in staff wellbeing.
This challenge is my way of giving something back.
Looking Ahead
Next week is a reset week.
It might feel like a step backwards, but I know it’s not. This isn’t about speed or pushing to the limit, it’s about building the endurance to keep going.
Because on 25th June, it’s not just about completing 30 miles.
It’s about doing something meaningful with every step.
Every step is getting me closer to my £3,000 goal.
If you’d like to support or follow the journey, it genuinely means a lot.
